Foot Surgery

Our feet are constantly under stress. It's no wonder that 80 percent of us will have some sort of problem with our feet at some time or another. Many things affect the condition of our feet: activity level, occupation, other health conditions, and perhaps most importantly, shoes. Many of the problems that arise in the foot are directly related to shoes, so it is very important to choose shoes that are good for your feet.
The foot is an incredibly complex mechanism. This introduction to the anatomy of the foot will not be exhaustive but rather highlight the structures that relate to conditions and surgical procedures of the foot.

Surgical Care at Irondequoit Animal Hospital

Surgery involves the treatment of disease, injury or deformity by operation or tissue manipulation. The end result: improving the quality of life for both the patient and their owner. All surgery involves some form of anesthesia and pain control thereafter. Always discuss the overall surgical/anesthetic/pain management protocol with your veterinarian.

Hang Mioku: injected cooking oil into her own face

Hang Mioku, a 48 year-old woman from South Korea, became so addicted to plastic surgery that she was left unrecognisable after her obsession led her to inject cooking oil into her face. She had her first plastic surgeryprocedure when she was 28. Following operation after operation, her fa ce was eventually left enlarged and disfigured, and the surgeonsshe visited refused to carry out any more work on her and one suggested that her obsession could be a sign of apsychological disorder. So Hang resorted to injecting cooking oil into her face. It became so grotesquely large that she was called "standing fan" by children in her neighborhood - due to her large face and small body.As Hang's notoriety spread she was featured on Korean TV. Viewers seeing the report took mercy on her and sent in enough donations to enable her to have surgery to reduce the size of her face. During the first procedure surgeons removed 60g of foreign substance from Hang's face and 200g from her neck. After several other sessions her face was left greatly reduced but still scarred and disfigured
